INWES to Host 2019 African Regional Conference in U is set for the African Regional Conference of International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists.
The conference which is billed to take place on 26th June 2019 at the 1000 capacity TETFUND Hall, main campus, University of Uyo by 9am, is expected to have Her Excellency Mrs Marther Udom Emmanuel as Special Guest of Honor, Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Prof Enefiok Essien as Chief host and Vice Chancellor of National Academy of Science and Technologies, Dakar, Senegal, Prof Gassama Kaye Kene as keynote Speaker.
Briefing newsmen on the Conference, the Chairperson of INWES, Dr Uduak Aniebiat Okon explained that the conference is aimed at promoting and encouraging girl child towards engineering and science education.
Dr Okon added that the Conference will focus on sensitising female children on the need to develop interest on science and engineering courses, not to allow their gender to intimidate them.
She expressed that the major objective of the conference is to partner with government and non governmental organizations for scholarship to promote science and engineering education.
While inviting the general public to the conference, Dr Okon expressed optimism towards the success of the conference and appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof Enefiok Essien and the entire University community.
She however appealed to the general public to come out en masse, assuring that the conference will be impactful
Enumerating the challenges faced by INWES, the Local Organizing Chairperson, Dr Justina Udotong highlighted lack of facilities for training, poor funding of schools, exams malpractice and gender discrimination as major challenges of the organization.
She appealed for support from government and non governmental organizations to encourage and support girl child in science and engineering education.
Others at the press conference were Dean Faculty of Engineering, prof Eniekan Offiong, HOD Vocational Educational, Dr Patrick Williams, immediate past Special Assistant to governor Emmanuel on Students Matters, Comr. Otobong Aquila, Dr Akan Udi among others.
Meanwhile, some of the salient sub themes of the conference are women participation in stem developments and sustainability, Technopreneurship and Entrepreneurship, Information System and Sustainability, Communication Technologies, Leadership in Stem Development, Agriculture and Sustainable of Food Security, Health Sustainability, Innovations in renewal energy Technologies, Water and Environ mental Sustainability.
