… As transport Ministry supports the issuance of driving license to keke/Motorcycle riders in A’Ibom
The new commissioner for ministry, transport and solid minerals, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Uno Etim Uno has made it known to Akwa Ibom transporters and Akwa Ibom people in general that the State Governor, Deacon, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, is against illegality in the State.
Chief Etim Uno stated this today in his office when he played host to the sector commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Akwa Ibom State Command Mr. Sunday Ogenekoro, and Chairman Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue service, Mr. Okon Okon.
The Commissioner, commended the FRSC and also accept the issuance of driving license to keke/Motorcycle riders as a welcome development, so far, it has legal backing.
He pointed out to the FRSC commander, that the deadline for the issuance of the license is too close, that as a ministry, there’s a needs to meet with all the relevant stakeholders and to embark on sensitization awareness program for the Keke Owners in the state in oder to avert any form of pandemonium in the state.
The Commissioner who expressed his optimism, in the Administration of His Excellency, Deacon, Udom Emmanuel, promised that after meeting with all relevant authorities, that Keke riders in the state, will comply.
Earlier, the sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Sunday Ogenekoro noted that he came to brief the Commissioner on the new motorcycle/Keke drivers license which the Federal Government is enforcing on the 2nd October 2019 Nationwide.
Mr Ogenekoro, went further to explain, the reason behind the enforcement of the said license, which includes incessant robbery attacks perpetrated by some members of the society using motorcycle and keke, as their means operations, adding that, the license will ease unnecessary accidents on the road, as the Commission has put in place some measures that will qualify a person before applying the federal roads.
He informed the commissioner and Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue service Boss, that the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and other relevant Agencies are ready to make sure that, the enforcement of the license see the light of the day come 2nd October 2019.
Explaining further, the Sector Commander maintained that the FRSC find it fit to collaborate with ministry of Transport as one of the critical stakeholders in the Transport sector, in order to make the exercise a fruitful one.
On his part, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue service, Mr. Okon Okon thanked the Commissioner and the sector commander, and promised to partner with the Ministry and the FRSC in implementing compliance.
